A place to post your favorite vintage (pre-1950) erotic photographs, art, and literature, and to discuss sex in history. Content ranges from charmingly risqué to hardcore and kink. I won't say that horrifying thing that the vintage pay-sites always say about "This is what your Great-Grandma was REALLY up to!" Eek! Anyway, if you hang around in the community for a little bit, you'll get a good idea of what to post.

Posting Rules:

Anyone can post, but all posts will be approved by the moderator before they appear in the community. However, if you become a regular poster, and I feel that you've got the hang of things, I'll give you automatic posting access.

Before continuing, allow me to introduce you to our venerable old friend, the <lj-cut>. You can also us it this way, to let people know how many pictures are behind the cut, or to let them know a little about the nature of those pictures: <lj-cut text="brief description of photo here">.

**Content**

1. All photographs and illustrations of sexual acts should be between consenting adults (humans). If there's any significant doubt in your mind about consent or age, it's better to be on the safe side and not post it. Feel free to ask jenny_dreadful about it if you're not sure about something, but you think it's so great that it seems worth checking about.

2. Gentials--exposed vulvas and erect penises must behind the cut, as well as any genital play or sex. Full frontal nudity is fine to be put outside of the cut, as long as it doesn't meet the aforementioned conditions.

3. All images should appear to be pre-1950.

4. Off-topic posts or spam will be deleted. If you feel like your community would be of great interest to our members, check with jenny_dreadful before promoting it here.


**Technical**

1. Any picture 600 px or wider should be placed behind a cut.

2. If you're posting more than one picture, please put all but the first behind a cut.

3. All posts are automatically friends-only when you post. Please do not go back after posting and make them public, or they will be deleted.

4. You can also use the thumbnail option to display your photos. If you thumbnail your pictures, remember to still post explicit photos behind a cut, and to not post more than 3 thumbnailed photos before a cut. The following services automatically create thumbnails for journal posts:

You can also use http://pics.livejournal.com if you have a paid account (this is also a good option because they don't delete your nudes and porn!).

6. It would be great if you could tag your posts (either choosing from the ones already created, or creating new ones). If you don't feel confident about this, it's okay--I'll try to tag them for you.


General Rules:

1. Be nice! Please appreciate the people who post. If I or a poster have made a formatting mistake, please just point it out nicely.

2. It is up to the poster to handle the comments in their own thread. Comments used to be surveyed by a mod, but it became too much of a hassle so as of now the rules are that each member is responsible for moderating his/her comments. You may argue, debate, or simply delete comments that are disagreeable, though I can assure future posters that, for the most part, comments are very positive. If a member becomes abusive in a thread and you feel it's beyond your control to deal with the person, by all means, contact jenny_dreadful.

3. If you do have suggestions for the community or concerns about a post (although most posts will be pre-approved by the mod anyway), contact jenny_dreadful, not the member who made the post.

4. Please treat the mod with a modicum of respect, even if you disagree with her.

5. Abusive members or members who repeatedly flout the rules will be banned.


Other Suggestions

retro__sex is a good place to post and view post-1950 photographs and pinups. Vintage sex style photographs of yourself, your friends, or models are beautiful, but they don't belong here, post them in my_vintage_self! For icons, there is vintagesexicons. For vintage photos that aren't erotic or risque, try vintagephoto. Those are all good communties. Go join 'em.

People who are worried about nudity appearing on their friends list because they are at work or because their children may see something over their shoulder can either create an adult filter to use when they're alone, or take this community off of their friends list, remain a member, and visit it when it's safe, from the link on their userinfo page. There is also an image placeholder option that might be of interest to some users.

To create an adult filter:
Go to your Edit Groups page and follow the instructions provided.

To utilize the image placeholder option:
Go to your Manage Settings page. Under the viewing options section there's an option titled 'image placeholders'. You can choose to have a link inserted in place of the image for all images, or large images.
